Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation Introduction

we're in the Trinity Centre for a littering cultural translation in Fenian stories which is a center that's devoted to promoting literary translation in Ireland and elsewhere the events that we're celebrating this evening were hosting is a lecture by dr. Rosalie Haddad and it's on the reception of George Bernard Shaw's plays in Brazil she's focusing on how Shaw is perceived by brazilians how he gets translated into Brazilian Portuguese and what happens then when he gets produced on the Brazilian stage so this is very much a topic that greatly interests us how Irish writing gets perceived in other countries around the world in different cultures and in different languages we're very committed here in the center to to public engagement because basically the idea is we want our Center to be a kind of a meeting place I described as kind of crossroads where people speaking all of the different languages coming from all the different cultures that have arrived here in Dublin some of the 160 languages the now spoken in the city of Dublin so what we want to do is to bring people from all of those backgrounds and languages here together in the center so we can if you like exchange discuss talk about our different cultures languages and literature's so the event to nice looking at how a Dublin playwright is carried across into Brazilian Portuguese is very much part of that kind of the spirit of public engagement that is the heart of what we do you
