THE KIND OF ART THAT MAKES YOUR HEART ACHE

THE KIND OF ART THAT MAKES YOUR HEART ACHE

– I am a introvert, like a lot of artists. I have done my share now
of building companies and hiring people and doing
a lot of extroverted things. I reached that point, it was probably, five or six years ago now, where I said, alright, I’ve accomplished what
I want to accomplish there, I need to find my next new
challenge or what it’s gonna be, and I knew that the creative
side and the arts was always kinda barking at me there
and saying, you know, you need to do something
around those areas. So, in the same kind of
almost spur, whimsical way, I said, alright, I’m finished with that and I said, I wanna do art full-time. I actually started then and I was done, I started full-time into painting,
I’d never really painted, I’d never painted before,
it was always in design and a lot on the computer
heavy side of it. I started painting and my
style then was very different than what it is now,
it was very whimsical, and I did two years of that
and kinda found my groove. Did a couple of shows,
did a good job at selling, but in the same way, I wasn’t
being challenged enough. I mean, it’s just like a
painting where you’re taking it and then you just, you push
too far, and you’re not stepping away from it
the way that you should, but that’s also where the
growth comes from, right? I mean, when you’re in there and then all of a sudden you go, okay, wait, there’s a whole lotta
learnings inside of there, which I’m totally good
with, all that pain. I really want to paint
what makes my heart ache. And what makes my heart ache are things that weren’t the style that
I was doing, they were things that I looked at and went,
oh my god, that’s incredible. When you stand in front
of some of these pieces where you go, they almost make you cry or sometimes they do make you cry, you go, how was that done,
where did it come from? That’s an amazing piece of art. I love a really good
abstract, you can tell when it’s done really well, you can tell when somebody’s really got it going. It’s been an incredible experience so far.

  1. I love these little vignettes—-but I have to mute the sound because of the annoying background music, which seems to be used on most of them. It seems way too hyper for a video where people are sharing their stories, which as an artist, I am REALLY interested in, but can't focus on because of the competing sounds. I think it is entirely unnecessary and terribly distracting. Maybe someone should assess whether that actually adds to the quality of the video or not. Since I mute the sound I do use CC to at least read what the artist is saying.
