Photoshop Tutorial: Paint Text Effect


Stock download links are in the description. Lets head up to File>New. Width 1920 Pixels by Height 1080 Pixels. Background Contents: Black. Then hit OK. Then hit create. Head over and select our Horizontal Type Tool. (T) The font I’m using is called Awesome Birds. Regular. Size: 1000pt. Font color: White. Then hit OK. Click and type>I will type Paint. Head over and select your Move Tool. (V) Position the text in the center. Head up to File>Open. I’m going to select a star/sky background. Double click to open in Photoshop. Using your Move Tool. Drag and drop onto our project. (V) Center the image. Click and drag it below the text layer. I will rename this layer to Stars. Head up to Image>Adjustments>Black & White. Then hit OK. Bring down the opacity to about 20%. Select the top text layer. Head down and create a new group. I will rename this group to Text and Drips. Click and drag our text layer into the group. Next, head up to File>Open. I will select an image with bright colors. This will be the paint colors. Double click to open in Photoshop. Using your Move Tool. (V) Drag and drop onto our project. Center the image. I’m going to rename this layer to color. Right click on it>Create a clipping mask. The top layer should be clipped to the group we created. Have the top layer selected. Head over and select the Mixer Brush Tool. Then click on the Brush Presets. Click on the little gear icon. Legacy Brushes. Click OK. Locate the Natural Brushes. Select one. If you do not have these. I’ve put together a few similar brushes to download. You can download these for free. Once you’ve selected a brush. Clean brush after each stroke. Everything else set to 100%. Uncheck>Sample all layers. Start mixing the colors together. Take your time. I will speed this part up. Try to leave brush strokes. Open the group by click on the little arrow. Click on the paint layer. Head down and create a new layer. I will rename this layer to drips. Head over and select the Brush Tool. (B) I will select a drip brush. Use your bracket keys to resize brush [ ] I will add a few drips here. Head over and select your eraser tool to delete parts. Duplicate the Drips layer. CTRL + J. Using your Move Tool. (V) Place them where you like. Duplicate again, CTRL + J. Using your Move Tool. (V) Position the 3rd one. Add more if you’d like. Head over and select the Mixer Brush Tool. Go over the drips, to even out the color. There we go, that looks pretty good. Click on the group arrow to close the group. Hide the visibility of the Stars and Background layers. Have the top layer selected. CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + E (Merge all visible layers) Hide the visibility of the Color Layer and the group. Turn back out the stars and background. Duplicate our top layer>CTRL + J. Hide the bottom text layer. I will rename this to MAIN. Select the Mixer Brush Tool again. Start adding brush strokes like so. CTRL + Z to undo. Here’s what I came up with.. Duplicate our top layer>CTRL + J. I will rename it to Filter Gallery. Head up to Filter>Filter Gallery. Make sure you’re in the Artistic Tab. Click on Paint Daubs. This will bring out the brush stokes more. Brush Size 1 | Sharpness 1. Then hit OK. Bring down the opacity if it’s too much. That’s it! Please leave a like if you made it this far.
