How to mix Realistic Flesh Tones – Painting skin tones – Chiriac

Hello,
This video shows you how to mix colors to get a realist skin base color or flesh tone.
We need white Red
Yellow And green.
So, start with a big blob of white then add a bit of red and mix them well to get a light
pink. Now add a bit of yellow and keep mixing.
We’ve got a kind of peachy skin color shade just good for a Manga character.
We have to turn down the intensity of it in order to get a realist base skin color.
Add for this, a tiny bit of green and mix them together.
If the hue isn’t just right, add more green, yellow, red or white and adjust it up.
And this is our base flesh tone. Well, we can buy a tube of ready made flesh
tone oil color just like this one from LeFranc & Bourgeois.

  1. Thank you! I'm very new to painting, about 4 months. I'm painting my first portrait! I struggle with this skin tone the most. I mix a good match, but then realize skin isn't the same tone or color all over the face, it's many. Shades, tones.. Etc. this must take years to perfect. I trudge on…. :-/
