Welcome to Pins and Things. Today is the last, Today of Harry Potter Christmas week. I can’t believe I made it through seven different videos That was a lot of work. For the last video, my brother has decided to help me He’s going to be making that how to make a howler. The how to make a howler ornament for your tree Hey guys, today I’m gonna be showing you how to make this howler Christmas tree ornament for our Harry Potter week We’re gonna use scissors and a piece of white paper and a piece of red paper and also a glue gun as we do this tutorial. So we’re gonna cut each of these pieces of paper into a square and we’re gonna keep the tabs off of each of these and I’m going to take this red piece, and I’m gonna fold it into an X shape Just for, these are reference folds for as we go farther on into this tutorial, but now I’m gonna lay this on top of this white piece of paper so we don’t have to put any creases or folds into this white piece because this will end up being the letter section of the the Howler letter and so as we do this, it just kinda makes it look a bit better that way So I’m going to take and save that for later I’m gonna take and I’m going to fold this white piece of paper in half and then I kind of do a bit of a reverse fold here I folded it backwards and forwards, and then I open it and I cut this right in half with a pair of scissors So now we’re gonna take our red piece of paper, and we’re gonna make some reference folds so we’re gonna fold straight into the middle on this and on both sides as we do this, so we’ve got one and then our second side to here And we’d open that up and we’re going to fold to that line that we just barely made and we’re going to make sure we fold that in and we’re going to open it up and we will go to do the other side just like we did And then now, we’re going to take, we’re going to fold one more time We do that. This direction and we’re going to take one for the other right now So as we do this, now that that is that we’ve done this to our last fold right here We’re going to actually take and we’re gonna open this up And we’re going to fold back our little tab here make sure it touches right on the edge of the piece of paper We’re gonna do the same thing on the other side now Now this is as wide as our howler is going to be, so now we’re gonna take our white piece of paper I’m gonna fold that in half That’s just a reference for the rest. We’re gonna slide it right inside of the howler letter, right here I’m gonna push this tab up and over and then we’re gonna fold these little flaps right here down and over the edge careful not to tear the howler So when you get the bottom one down here and just pull this up and over And once we have that piece done, we’ll pull this out We’ll run a bead of glue down the side of this here And then we’re going to glue our piece of paper on top of it. Now I like to push these little tab pieces up inside right here when I do this because it just makes it look better in my opinion. Just push this piece down Just get established nice on there Careful with the hot glue guys. Don’t burn your hands with this and then we’re going to take and we’re going to lift up our flap here, and we’re gonna glue down our other side And after we get this piece put down, we’re going to go ahead and we’re going to glue down our last little tab right here Make sure you know I actually glue down both of these tabs typically when I do this So doesn’t really move around a lot once It’s once we get to folding, so we’re going to fold it in half from the middle right here And then I’m actually gonna do a little another little fold right here up underneath, you see I kind of crease it in right there I’m gonna fold this piece up over the top so it looks more like an envelope shape once we start doing our other fold on it And now let’s get to work on these teeth here, so I’m going to take this little tab that we had left over I’m going to fold in half and then fold in half the other direction as well so once this piece is folded in half we’re going to open it up, and we’re going to make that was just a reference fold in the middle And then we’re going to go ahead and fold into the middle from both sides here. Just like this Now once this is done, we’re going to go ahead and reestablish our middle fold and then we’re going to start actually doing some pleating on this. We’re going to make this piece look pleated This is going to make our teeth look good, so I’m just going to do a little pleat right here Once this one is established, we’ll move down and kind of make the the space big enough to where it makes to where the distance between the the end of the plates is about the size of how the tooth would be That’s what makes that, that howler look good It’s got a mouth on it and so and then you can start to see the pleats are come into shape now. I’ll just gone. I’m pleat it all the way down one side and we’re gonna go and do the same thing on the other side now Reverse from the way it was before And so now we’ve got a good set of pleats here And we’re gonna take and we’re gonna actually wait to flip this over and we’re going to reverse fold those pleats the other direction now And these aren’t going to actually stay pleated. Once they’re done, they’re actually going to kind of poke out just go straight back like this. Yeah, just like this so that we can use that as our tooth tape. Now once we’ve done that we’re gonna actually cut that right in half along that line that we’ve established there Just be careful with them and now, we’ve got our teeth ready to go on our howler So we’re gonna take and we’re going to glue a little, a little dab of glue in the middle Make sure this is done the right direction here So, glue down that middle piece just so that it stays where we want it to be and then we can start gluing down the rest of it now So this is the top and I’m gluing right here And then once this one’s glued down, we can go ahead and start gluing down the bottom And so just make sure to be careful, you get a few strings as you’re doing this part. Don’t worry about it Just clean them up good is your after things are dried Don’t try and pluck out it too much because it might pull the teeth off as you’re working on it So, well now that that’s on there, we can start to shape the top of the mouth, so what we’re going to do is I like to kind of fold it over as if it was an envelope being folded Just as if the teeth weren’t there and then we’re going to go ahead and fold it up from the bottom as well just like this and then I actually I’d like to do a little fold on the top here where I’ll pinch at the top like this Get my thumbs up underneath it and just kind of, kind of a bowl shape with the top of the mouth And I’ll do that on the bottom as well Just it makes it kind of have more of the more of the howlers shape with you as you watch Harry Potter you could have seen. Just has a lot more mouth shape to it as this is going and so now that we’ve got that, I’m gonna actually fold up from the bottom here and just kind of, kind of crinkle it up a little bit right here and we’re almost done, but I think, I think we should write something in this so there’s something good to write on this Let me think real quick I think I got it. Okay, uh You are getting coal for Chrismas That seems like something that a Howler will yell at you. You’re getting coal for Christmas. There we go. So we’re gonna take our other tab of red paper that was left over. We’re gonna just cut out a little tongue here, supposed to look like a piece of ribbon, it doesn’t have to be It doesn’t have to be perfect And I’m just gonna cut a little right here And we’re gonna put a dab of glue up inside of the mouth now and we’re going to glue our little tongue in right here. Just like this, it looks great I’m loving this you guys, it’s looks so good. So now i’m going to take this and I’m just gonna put another dab of glue down across this, all the way across and I’m gonna close that and then now I’m just going to take it’s basically done I’m just gonna glue a rubber band on my howler, but you know what? You can use a piece of twine, you could use a regular hook for a Christmas tree ornament. There’s so many different things you can do with it I just use it crisp I just use a rubber band because you know if I want to make a whole bunch of different ones of these It’s easy. it’s cheap, and it’s easy and it looks good, so we’re basically done at this point. I’m just gonna sit I’m gonna actually clean it up a little bit here And I’m gonna kind of shape the mouth a little bit more now that we’ve kind of worked on it for a little bit We established how we want to look and we’re done.
